The WWI Clive Johns Letter from Bude
This interesting letter provides a wealth of information about the Johns family
of Bude, Cornwall during the first world war. It was written home by Clive
Johns (then in the New Zealand army) when he visited relatives
while stationed in England during the war. Clive Johns went on to become mayor
of Mount Eden, New Zealand after the war. You'll need

The 1841 West Putford Census
This census shows the Johns and Walter familes, along with related familes
Bond and Vanstone, etc. Some familiar addresses from West Putford are there,
including Voulhouse (Volehouse) and Church Town (also known as Churston Manor).

Description of Sutcombe in 1850
This 1850 description of Sutcombe (home to many people in this genealogy) names
the Lord of the Manor of Sutcombe as Richard Walter, who held this title as
owner of Churston Manor, in West Putford. Richard Walter (1781-1865) was my
GGGG-Grandfather, and he lived at Churston Manor from at least 1815.
